Emily

We’re still playing catch up on the many wonderful 7Qs submissions that have come in this year. This is one is from Emily. Look below for a link to her SoundCloud and plan on spending a long time exploring her wonderful piano compositions. They’re gorgeous. Thanks so much for sharing Emily!

1. What’s your name? Chosen or otherwise.

Emily Guillas

2. Who has been most supportive of your transition or gender expression?

Well my family (although they are better now) kinda disowned me for my gender identity for a while in the beginning and so did a lot of my friends but I met a good kind trans girl during my 7th month and she became my strongest supporter. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

3. What do most enjoy about your life since beginning transition? If you’re not there yet, what about the possibility of transition excites you the most? What do you look forward to? Alternatively, what about your current gender expression is most satisfying?

Being myself and getting to wear the clothes i have always dreamed of wearing outside of my home i am totally addicted to dresses :S

4. Who are your trans role models? or Who have you looked up to in the trans community? Who inspires you?

There are a few on you tube that i have followed for quite some time (Minorqback, Vannasiamese, iigethii, urmwhynot, ect.) but I would say my strongest trans role model would be another close friend of mine. She is so pretty.

5. What change(s) would you most like to see in the world? This can be trans related, or not, but we’d love to know where your passion lies.

Well there are many changes that would benefit humanity, but I’ll keep it trans related. Equality is of the utmost importance, and transphobia needs to continue to be diminished to non-existence, which will never truly happen but i just cross my fingers anyways.

6. What are you doing to make those changes happen?

[Oops, Emily seems to have skipped this one. Get back to us! No one gets off the hook.]

7. Tell us something, anything, special and unique about you, your interests, your story. Never forget, gender is just one part of the larger project of becoming a fully authentic human being.

Well I think my most interesting aspect about me is how complex my life has been and the walls I have had to overcome,  even as a child, to get to where I am. Abuse of physical and sexual forms, the passing of my adoptive mother in grade 9, and acceptance from my family, joining the military and the experiences that followed, to surviving civi life. On a different note, my music which has been with me every step of the way is what makes everything click into place for me. It’s my avenue for personal and artistic expression and has been during the good days and the bad ones. I’m pretty blessed with how my transition has treated me so far and honestly couldn’t ask for anymore. Although I do not have too many friends the select few that are in my life are wonderful people.

Emily writes and records piano and electronic music, which can be found on SoundCloud.

You can also check out the YouTube channels for both her music and her personal transition diary.
